In recent years vintage-style clawfoot bathtubs have become a popular
design choice in many new homes and home remodels, bringing classic Victorian style to modern living.
Clawfoot tub faucets provide the perfect
complement, and come in a wide range of designs, styles and colors that will add elegance and beauty to your
vintage bathtub.
If you have a clawfoot bathtub, then you already know how elegant
and wonderful it is for taking a long hot soaking bath!
You also probably know that you need to install a faucet that is compatible with this style of
tub. A standard tub faucet will not usually work with a clawfoot bath tub, which is why you will need a
clawfoot tub faucet or tub filler.
Clawfoot tub faucets are often made of brass, and may be plated with
nickel, or chrome. Handles are usually made of porcelain or metal. There are a number of different faucet options
for clawfoot bathtubs, including these four common configurations:Tub Wall Mounted, Rim and Deck Mounted, Free Standing
Faucets, and Clawfoot Shower Faucets.
Following is a brief overview of each of
these faucet types.
Tub Wall Mounted Faucets
Tub wall mounted faucets are installed in the interior tub wall through
pre-drilled holes. There are different styles to choose from including gooseneck, hand shower, and traditional tub
wall mounted fixtures, as well as bathroom wall mounted faucets. Here are some typical prices you can expect to pay
for this type of faucet:
a) Prices of gooseneck wall mount faucets vary in price from about $50 to
$500 or more. Some gooseneck fixtures include a hand held shower accessory, thus driving up the price for these
units.
b) Hand shower wall mount units range in price from about $80 to more than
$1000.
c) Traditional tub mounts are generally more economical, ranging from $30
to $300 or a little more.
d) Bathroom wall mounted faucets range in price from about $60 to $800 or
more.
Prices for these units vary widely depending on factors such as brand
(manufacturer), design, features, and material used in construction.
Rim or deck mounted faucets are installed in tubs that have pre-drilled
holes in the rim or deck of the bathtub. Many people prefer rim/deck mounts because the faucet rests on the rim of
the tub and does not take up space inside the tub walls. You can generally choose a deck mounted faucet with or
without a hand shower attachment.
Prices for deck mounted faucets begin at about $250 and go up to $800 or
more.
Tubs that have no holes drilled in the wall or rim require free standing
faucets. Free standing faucets look nostalgically "cool", and you can place it anywhere you like in relation to
your tub.
Cool factor notwithstanding, free standing faucets can get downright
pricey. Prices for these types of faucets range from about $500 up to $3000 or more.
A useful option that you should consider is getting a faucet with a
hand-held shower head attachment. A hand-held shower head provides more versatility to your clawfoot tub faucet
configuration. A hand-held shower attachment is a perfect accessory for washing and rinsing your hair and hard to
reach body areas (like your back), and for cleaning your tub.
